Cabinet gives go ahead for JKIA expansion

Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) is gearing up for a fabulous makeover as Kenya aims to transform it into the ultimate regional travel hub.

The Cabinet recently gave the nod to the National Aviation Policy, which is all about maximizing the aviation sector’s impact on Kenya’s growth.

The government is on a mission to boost connectivity both locally and internationally, while also strengthening the vital link between tourism and aviation.

The newly approved policy is all about unlocking the full potential of the aviation sector to drive Kenya’s economic prosperity.

By focusing on enhancing connectivity on all fronts, the policy aims to supercharge the sector’s contribution to the nation’s wealth.

The grand plan includes upgrading key elements of JKIA, such as the passenger terminal, runway, taxiway, apron, and airside facilities.

One exciting aspect of JKIA’s medium-term investment plan is the Kenya Airspace Master Plan, which lays out the evolution and investments to be made by the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) in Air Navigation Services (ANS) over the next 15 years.

“To strengthen the ties between tourism and aviation and solidify Nairobi’s status as an aviation hub, the Cabinet has given the green light to the National Aviation Policy. This policy is all about maximizing the aviation sector’s impact on Kenya’s growth by boosting connectivity at both national and international levels,” the cabinet brief states.

However, it’s crucial to ramp up the capacity of the country’s international airports to meet the growing demand.

Projections show a significant increase, with passenger numbers expected to reach 42.1 million annually by 2050.
