Nairobi, Kenya \u2013 April 7, 2025<\/strong> \u2013 Emirates, the renowned Dubai-based carrier, has officially announced its membership in the Aviation Circularity Consortium (ACC), marking a significant step towards fostering a circular economy within the aviation industry. The announcement, made today, underscores Emirates’ commitment to its sustainability strategy and its dedication to reducing its environmental footprint.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Aviation Circularity Consortium (ACC), headquartered in Dubai, is a collaborative network uniting key players across the aviation ecosystem. Its core mission is to accelerate the decarbonization of the global aviation supply chain through the implementation of high-value circularity principles. By bringing together airlines, regulators, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), suppliers, and financial institutions, the ACC aims to forge and strengthen innovative pathways for a more sustainable future for air travel.<\/span><\/p>\n

Emirates has already integrated various recycling and circular solutions into its operational framework as a cornerstone of its sustainability initiatives. Emirates becomes the second airline to join the ACC, following Qantas, signaling a growing industry-wide acknowledgment of the vital role circularity plays in achieving decarbonization goals. Sam Tan Yee Leong, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of SL Metals, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the significance of aluminum in the industry: \u201cAluminium plays a critical role in aviation, as in many other industries, making responsible sourcing and efficient material use essential. Aluminum production also accounts for 3% of global industrial CO2 emissions, making sustainable practices across the supply chain increasingly important. SL Metals remains committed to improving sustainability within our own operations while supporting broader industry-wide efforts.\u201d He further added, \u201cThrough the ACC, we look forward to advancing best practices in aluminum use and supporting initiatives that shape a more resilient and sustainable aviation supply chain.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Emirates has a demonstrable track record in embracing upcycling and recycling initiatives. Notably, the airline has successfully transformed discarded leather aircraft seat covers into a stylish range of luggage and other lifestyle accessories, showcasing its commitment to finding innovative uses for end-of-life materials.<\/span><\/p>\n
