Car companies are pushing the boundaries of performance and technology in ways never seen before. Here is a list of truly special cars that are on the roads of the world today.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tesla Model S:\u00a0<\/strong>The future now<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Electric cars are the future. It\u2019s a natural progression that will see the world driven into pure electric cars and phase out the much-loved internal combustion engine. Electric power trains have some definite advantages such as the fact that you only have a single moving part, the electric motor, as opposed to the hundreds in a conventional engine, each with the possibility of going wrong.<\/span><\/p>\n

The upshot is also that with electric power, there\u2019s no building up, as with electric appliances: It is either on or off and you can have full horsepower and torque at the start, as proven by Telsa\u2019s Model S, and its launch control aptly named ludicrous mode which lets it run from 0-100 kph in 2.8 seconds.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Hybrid Hypercar Trio<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

While electricity is definitely the future, the here and now is hybrid and proof of that is, we actually, on our very streets, have the pioneer hybrid car, the Toyota Prius, weaving around. Indeed, a taxi company uses them. They have been around globally for more than 15 years. On the contrary, I have not come near any pure electric cars with the closest being the all-electric bus made in Uganda. By the way I salute it!<\/span><\/p>\n

At the very top of the hybrid world are the trio of Ferrari La Ferrari, Porsche 918 and the McLaren P1. The McLaren and Ferrari benefit directly from their respective F1 efforts which has also incorporated hybrid technology for the past 7 years. These three cars made Hybrids cool!<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Bentley Bentayga: A precursor to Rolls SUV<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Locally if you really want to go all out on a Luxury SUV, a Toyota Landcruiser VX is more than you\u2019ll ever need, turn the dial up to 15 and you get the Range Rover pedigree in SV trim. What if your pockets are much deeper and your expectations much higher, then there\u2019s no other car for you than the Bentley Bentayga.<\/span><\/p>\n

Imagine Noah\u2019s Ark powered by a 6-litre W12 and instead of the animals it contained all the luxury known to man. The Bentayga is not a rival for the Range Rover because it has no rival: it is the absolute luxury SUV. With the rumours and spy photos of the Rolls Royce SUV under development, probably the first to set the trend in the absolutely bourgeois world of the filthy rich who want to go up and down hills, across valleys and be able to tow even more luxury in their wake.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Mercedes Maybach: Because one is here<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

While this list may seem to contain exclusive cars that we may never get to see, it also contains one you may be lucky to see on our streets, the Mercedes S600 Maybach. I went for lunch with the heavyweights at DT Dobie where it was disclosed that the Maybach was right there at their HQ waiting for the owner to just show up and purr the beauty away. Our pleas to take a look or even a picture fell on deaf ears.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Maybach is the most exclusive of the most refined Mercedes on the planet, right on our streets, dripping with next generation technology and luxury that no other car on the streets can match, with the exception of the other two Maybachs which are all that DT Dobie targets to sell.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is highly unlikely but I\u2019ll ask anyway. If you\u2019re reading this and just received the keys to your Maybach\u2026test drive?<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Upcoming TVR: more madness<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

TVR has always been a special company. It is as if passion was their only driving force and only that from time to time they unfortunately had to deal with the boring reality of sales and profitability. Their cars are always outrageous, my personal favourite being the Sagaris which is bar none, the most awesome, practically impractical sports car that will equally excite and terrify, and probably kill you.<\/span><\/p>\n

All TVRs should come with a warning label such as on cigarette packs. If you want to go the TVR way, the good news is that they\u2019re back with a new car. Details are scarce, though. Predictably.<\/span><\/p>\n
