{"id":5906,"date":"2020-10-13T09:43:18","date_gmt":"2020-10-13T06:43:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.magaripoa.com\/?p=5906"},"modified":"2020-10-13T09:43:18","modified_gmt":"2020-10-13T06:43:18","slug":"lorry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.magaripoa.com\/gari\/lorry\/","title":{"rendered":"Lorry driver rams into a motorcycle instantly killing a form four student @KenyanTraffic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 12pt;\">A form four student from Mbale Secondary School died on Monday, October 12, after he was involved in a grisly road accident in Lunyerere, Vihiga County.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 12pt;\">The student was on his way to school following the\u00a0phased reopening, when the accident happened.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 12pt;\">It is reported that the student had boarded a motorcycle when a lorry rammed them, killing him on the spot and injuring the rider.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 12pt;\">&#8220;The lorry, which was coming from Mbale and heading to Chavakali, lost control when its brakes failed. This in turn forced the driver to hit the pavement and swerve,&#8221; a witness stated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 12pt;\">The rider reportedly tried to<em>\u00a0<\/em><span class=\"aCOpRe\">manouver<\/span><em><span class=\"aCOpRe\">\u00a0<\/span><\/em>to avoid being hit but failed, leading to lorry hitting the motorcycle.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 12pt;\">Road accidents have been on the rise in the last couple of weeks with Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai noting that drivers failed to comply with\u00a0basic road safety requirements.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 12pt;\">&#8220;The National Police Service will undertake nationwide enforcement operations to address factors such as speeding, lane indiscipline, assessment of general compliance with public service vehicle (PSV) licensing requirement, a crackdown on unroadworthy vehicles among other traffic offences,&#8221; he wrote in a statement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 12pt;\">In addition, the IG stated that the police would conduct random drunk driving tests in all major towns from October 9.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 12pt;\">He stated that the measures would enhance efforts towards road safety in order to prevent the unnecessary loss of lives.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 12pt;\">Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kenyans.co.ke\/news\/58180-form-4-student-killed-grisly-accident-way-school?utm_campaign=form%204%20student%20killed%20in%20grisly%20accident%20on%20way%20to%20school&amp;utm_medium=ak&amp;utm_source=facebook\">Kenyans<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A form four student from Mbale Secondary School died on Monday, October 12, after he was involved in a grisly road accident in Lunyerere, Vihiga County.
