There are 2 scenarios here. First, the lorry driver was overtaking reckless without good judgement on whether he could do so safely. Second, the Matatu driver was over speeding far beyond the prescribed limit therefore unable to react in good time and avert disaster.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Four people were killed and four others seriously injured after a Matatu they were traveling in collided head-on with a lorry at Stima area along the\u00a0Narok-Mai Mahiu road\u00a0on Wednesday night.<\/span><\/p>\n

Confirming the 8pm accident, Narok East Sub-County Police Commander Mwenda Muthamia said the matatu belonging to Narok Line Sacco heading to Nairobi engaged in a head-on collision killing the four on the spot.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe lorry was trying to overtake when it collided head-on with a matatu that was being driven at high speed towards Narok,\u201d Mr Muthamia.<\/span><\/p>\n

He also confirmed that\u00a0Matatu driver that had eight passengers on board at the time of the accident was among the people who\u00a0died.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe other four passengers suffered serious injuries and taken to Narok County Referral Hospital where they are undergoing treatment,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

The police boss said the driver of the lorry reported the incident at Ntulele Police Station but later escaped before he was arrested, adding that a manhunt has already been launched.<\/span><\/p>\n

The wreckage of the PSV and the lorry were towed to Ntulele Police Station yard for further inspection.<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0Narok-Mai Mahiu road\u00a0especially Ntulele area have become a black spot as several accidents are being experienced on the road every month, with the sub-county commander now urging motorists and all road users to exercise caution while on the road and observe traffic rules.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Following the incident, Muthamia has issued a stern warning against drivers committing traffic offenses while plying the route saying most accidents were caused by reckless\u00a0speeding drivers.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMost of these accidents can be avoided if the motorists are careful and avoid over speeding especially on steep grounds,\u201d Muthamia said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Statistics documented by the National Police Service and the National Transport and Safety Authority show an increased number of accidents attributed to speeding and drunk-driving.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
