{"id":6088,"date":"2024-11-26T17:39:27","date_gmt":"2024-11-26T14:39:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.magaripoa.com\/?p=6088"},"modified":"2024-11-26T17:39:27","modified_gmt":"2024-11-26T14:39:27","slug":"drunk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.magaripoa.com\/gari\/drunk\/","title":{"rendered":"Drunk driver plunges into the Expressway excavations on Mombasa Road"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;color: #000000\">Last night a saloon car broke through\u00a0 barriers erected along Mombasa Road to demarcate the pits currently being excavated in the Nairobi expressway project.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;color: #000000\">Parts of the busy Mombasa Road and a section of Waiyaki Way in Nairobi, have been cordoned off by the contractor thereby converting the triple lanes into a two lane road.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;color: #000000\">The driver was caught out by the convergence and dived through the barrier and straight into the pit riddled with heavy gauge construction metals\u00a0close to NextGen Mall.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;color: #000000\">Footage of the mangled up car has since emerged, showing the point at which the car broke through as well.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;color: #000000\">The state of the driver and passengers is yet to be established.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;color: #000000\">At least 4 other cars were involved in the accident that happened close to Capital Centre, as they tried to avoid each other at the\u00a0point the lanes\u00a0converged.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;color: #000000\">An overturned truck lay on the side of\u00a0the road, with the dual lanes littered with various car parts and shattered windscreens strew across the tarmac.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;color: #000000\">According to eyewitness reports, the driver of the salon car is said to have been intoxicated at the time of the grisly accident.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;color: #000000\">At least 200 metres before the scene of the accident, the\u00a0contractors had erected warning signs\u00a0directing motorists to slow down due to the construction works ahead.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;color: #000000\">However, the poorly lit area has raised concerns with Nairobians warning of more accidents if it goes unaddressed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;color: #000000\">There has been a rise in the number of accidents over the last months, mostly linked to drink-driving.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;color: #000000\">On the first weekend of bar operations since\u00a0Covid-19 pandemic, 60 people were killed in road accidents, the highest number of fatalities in recent months.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Read original article on <a href=\"http:\/\/Kenyans.co.ke\">Kenyans<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last night a saloon car broke through\u00a0 barriers erected along Mombasa Road to demarcate the pits currently being excavated in the Nairobi expressway project. &nbsp;
