{"id":7441,"date":"2024-09-15T23:40:26","date_gmt":"2024-09-15T20:40:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.magaripoa.com\/?p=7441"},"modified":"2024-09-15T23:40:26","modified_gmt":"2024-09-15T20:40:26","slug":"hiked-prices-has-pushed-motorists-and-boda-bodas-to-smuggle-fuel-from-tanzania","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.magaripoa.com\/gari\/hiked-prices-has-pushed-motorists-and-boda-bodas-to-smuggle-fuel-from-tanzania\/","title":{"rendered":"Hiked prices has pushed motorists and boda bodas to smuggle fuel from Tanzania"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: 12pt\">Motorists and boda boda operators at the border county of Migori have opted to source for fuel from neighbouring Tanzania where it is cheaper.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: 12pt\">According to motorists, they have been crossing to Tanzania to fuel since petrol is sold at Sh94 per litre compared to Kenya where it is Sh130.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: 12pt\">\u201cSince fuel prices were hiked, life has been difficult,\u201d said Moses Otieno, a boda boda rider who had gone to get fuel from Tanzania with a jerrican.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: 12pt\">Early this week, there was an outrage among boda boda riders operating within Migori town over the hiked fuel prices, which were effected on March 15.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: 12pt\">Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority increased super petrol by Sh7.63 per litre, diesel by Sh5.75 per litre and kerosene by Sh5.41 per litre.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: 12pt\">A litre of petrol now retails at Sh122.81, diesel at Sh107.66 and kerosene at Sh97.85 whereas in Tanzania petrol sells at Sh93.67, diesel at Sh90.36 and kerosene at Sh88.09.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: 12pt\">In Migori, petrol is retailing between Sh123 and Sh130.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: 12pt\">The riders who were angered by the hike said the government should review the prices.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: 12pt\">The groups that have opted to go for cheap fuel from include boda boda riders, taxi drivers and personal vehicle owners who travel from as far as Kisii.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;color: #000000\">Read ariginal article on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standardmedia.co.ke\/kenya\/article\/2001406901\/motorists-along-border-cross-to-tanzania-for-cheap-fuel\"><strong>Standard<\/strong><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Motorists and boda boda operators at the border county of Migori have opted to source for fuel from neighbouring Tanzania where it is cheaper.
