Step 1: Open an NTSA Account<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

  1. To be able to apply for a Driving Instructor license, using a browser, open the NTSA web portal using this \u00a0NTSA Citizens Self-Service Portal<\/a>.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Applicants visiting the NTSA portal for the first time will be required to register on TIMS; clicking on the \u201cRegister\u201d link; will direct the applicant to the e-Register an Account page. It is from this page that Individuals, Dealers, Agents, Financial Institutions, Companies, and Driving schools register on the platform.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Input one detail and follow the process to complete registration.<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Applicants applying as individual Kenyan citizens will be prompted to input their ID Serial Number. Be careful not to input your ID Number as what is required is the\u00a0Serial Number.<\/span>\n

    Please note:<\/b>\u00a0An applicant who has replaced their ID within the last two years, will have to use their old ID card\u2019s serial number. (In case the system rejects any of your details you are advised to visit NTSA offices)<\/span><\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/li>\n
  5. Add your KRA PIN Number. Add your Mother\u2019s Maiden Name. Add your Occupation and Phone Number or email address.<\/span><\/li>\n
  6. Applicants applying as an alien will be required to type in their Alien ID serial number and then type in their passport date of issue, their KRA PIN, and other mandatory fields before clicking on the \u201cSubmit\u201d button to proceed to the next step.<\/span><\/li>\n
  7. Applicants applying as a company will be required to type in the company’s valid certificate of incorporation, company KRA PIN, and the KRA PIN of one of the directors before clicking on the \u201cSubmit\u201d button to proceed to the next step.<\/span><\/li>\n
  8. Request a verification code by clicking on the \u201cVerify Mobile\/email address\u201d button. Type in the code you receive on your phone or email address in the verification tab to complete the verification process.<\/span><\/li>\n
  9. Confirm all details are okay and click on the \u201cSubmit\u201d button to complete the registration.<\/span><\/li>\n
  10. The applicant will receive their username and password to their phone via SMS and also on email.<\/span><\/li>\n
  11. You are now registered on the TIMS platform.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Step 2: Log into the NTSA account<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Upon successful registering with the TIMS Platform, Open the NTSA web portal using this\u00a0NTSA Citizens Self-Service Portal<\/a>.<\/span><\/li>\n
    2. Click on the Login Method to choose whether to log in using Username, ID No., Alien ID No. or Certificate of Incorporation.<\/span><\/li>\n
    3. Type in the Username\/ID No. and Password.<\/span><\/li>\n
    4. Click on the \u201cGet Code\u201d button. A Security code will be sent to your mobile phone. Type in the Security Code and click on the Sign In button to log in to your account.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Step 3: Make the Application for a Driving Instructor License.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

        \n
      1. Once login click on the \u201cDriving license\u201d Option on the menu bar and select \u201cApply for Driving Instructor License \u201d on the drop-down menu.<\/span><\/li>\n
      2. This will prompt the Driving Instructor License application form to be displayed, fill all the mandatory fields accurately, upload copy of a scanned copy of all supporting documentation as listed on the site and confirm those fields that are already pre-filled.<\/span><\/li>\n
      3. upon completing filling out the application form, click on the \u201cNext button \u201c to proceed to the payment page.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        Step 4: Make payment.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

          \n
        1. The license fee and the convenience charges will be displayed and applicant will be required to proceed will the payment process.<\/span><\/li>\n
        2. Choose the preferred payment method convenient to you. Payment can either be made using a different payment platform mode i.e through online Mobile banking (Mpesa) or bank.<\/span><\/li>\n
        3. Once you have made the payment, follow the provided instructions and complete the payment. Make sure to print out the payment invoice.<\/span><\/li>\n
        4. Once you complete the process click on \u201cSubmit\u201d and the application will be forwarded to NTSA for processing.<\/span><\/li>\n
        5. One should wait for approval online and an alert will be sent via SMS once the driving instructor license is ready for collection.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          Step 5:<\/b>\u00a0Visit the NTSA Office and collect the Driving Instructor License<\/span><\/p>\n

            \n
          1. Upon receiving the notification, visit the NTSA offices as mentioned on the notification message with your invoice printout and ID card. Here, NTSA officials will verify the documents and the applicants will be issued with the Driving instructor License.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

            Step 6:<\/b>\u00a0How to view your application status<\/span><\/p>\n

              \n
            1. Using a browser, open the NTSA web portal using this\u00a0NTSA Citizens Self-Service Portal<\/a>.<\/span><\/li>\n
            2. Log in by filling in identification details and password or create a new NTSA TIMS account if you are a new user<\/span><\/li>\n
            3. After a successful login, navigate to the dashboard and click \u201cDriving License\u201d option on the menu bar.<\/span><\/li>\n
            4. This will prompt all application submitted to be displayed, you will be able to view the status of your recently applied documents.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
              <\/div>\n

              Required Documents<\/span><\/h2>\n
                \n
              • Valid identification document (ID card for citizens or Passport for foreigners)<\/span><\/li>\n
              • Valid driving license<\/span><\/li>\n
              • Recent clear passport photo<\/span><\/li>\n
              • Valid certificate of good conduct obtained from Criminal Investigations Department (CID).<\/span><\/li>\n
              • Ordinary level certificate of education.<\/span><\/li>\n
              • Subject matter and classes will vary greatly depending on your state, but will include both classroom work and driving course work.<\/span><\/li>\n
              • An abstract of the driving record (if from out-of-province)<\/span><\/li>\n
              • Medical referral forms completed by a duly qualified medical practitioner<\/span><\/li>\n
              • Vision referral form completed by a duly qualified ophthalmologist or optometrist (if necessary)<\/span><\/li>\n
              • operator’s license for inspection.<\/span><\/li>\n
              • Such other documents supporting character, experience, or qualifications upon request by the Authority.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                Eligibility<\/span><\/h2>\n

                Applicants should meet the following criteria to be eligible to apply;<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

                  \n
                • Applicant must be 25 years and above<\/span><\/li>\n
                • He\/ she must have under gone training for instructors.<\/span><\/li>\n
                • Must have experience of five years with the class of vehicles you want to instruct.<\/span><\/li>\n
                • Anyone applying for a driving instructor\u2019s license must pass a vision test.<\/span><\/li>\n
                • You will be required to pass a physical \u2013 and possibly a mental health \u2013 screening before becoming eligible.<\/span><\/li>\n
                • Hold a current Kenya driver Licence<\/span><\/li>\n
                • Be physically and mentally competent<\/span><\/li>\n
                • Have an acceptable driving record<\/span><\/li>\n
                • Not have been convicted of a criminal offence in the last (5) years.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                  Fees<\/span><\/h2>\n

                  The total license fee will be mentioned on the NTSA application portal.<\/span><\/p>\n

                  Validity<\/span><\/h2>\n
                    \n
                  • The validity of the driving instructor license shall be mentioned on the document and shall remain valid for that stipulated time-frame unless suspended, revoked or cancelled by the legal authorized authority.<\/span><\/li>\n
