A wrong turn made by a boda boda rider led to the death of Steve Chege, a politician who in the last elections contested for the Laikipia Senate seat.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n

His Toyota saloon car was speeding along the highway when he suddenly encountered a bodaboda operator riding in the wrong direction.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

To avoid a head-on collision, he quickly swerved his vehicle, only to hit road barriers.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This sent the car spinning in the air, and it landed in a ditch a few meters away.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The fatal accident happened along the Northern Bypass on Sunday, October 30, 2022, at 3:30am and was rushed to the Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital (K.U.T.R.H) Hospital.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The accident occurred near Kiamumbi estate.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n

At the hospital, doctors recommended he be taken to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and an online appeal was made that anyone willing to offer blood for Chege to rush there.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Reports of his death were shared on social media by\u00a0 among others a renowned activist a few hours after he appealed for blood donation.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

He said, the aspiring senator had been involved in a road accident and was admitted to Kenyatta University hospital in a critical condition.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

“Dear\u00a0Steve Chege<\/a>\u00a0I have never met you. But I see your energy and passion on this platform. I celebrate all you do as a young Kenyan. Our country is better because of your voice. I have learned you are in hospital. I am sorry for the accident. I pray you to get out soon. This country needs you, Sir. Win my brother. Win,” Nyoro wrote.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Our brother urgently needs blood.\u00a0Hon. Steve Chege Senator Laikipia County.<\/a>\u00a0is admitted at Kenyatta University Referral Hospital, and needs blood donations. All blood types are welcome to donate. Contact Geraldine Muiruri on 0712121500, or Kirika Githaiga for more details. Say a prayer for our brother.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Just a few hours after the post, he updated Steve’s status noting that he had succumbed.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Kiriga Githaiga also annoced the sad news and said that he was with the family at the hospital where he was admitted.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cGood morning everyone. It is with profound shock and acceptance of God’s will that we have received the sad news of Steve’s demise. We are still at K.U referral hospital following up. The family is here with us at the hospital. Kindly keep them in (your) prayers,\u201d Mr Kirika Githaiga, a close friend, posted on Facebook.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

His wife Ms Everlyne Wangare said that her husband’s body was at the facility’s morgue.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n

“It is very unfortunate that I have lost my husband in a road accident. We have viewed the body at the morgue. We shall communicate on what follows later,” she said.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Mr Philip Etale, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) communication Director said \u201cRest Easy my friend. We shall meet on that bright morning.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Journalist Catherie Riungu posted: “He died avoiding to hit a motorbike that was riding on the wrong side of the road, according to reports.\u00a0 Steve Chege, RIP.\u00a0 His car hit the rails and crashed dealing him life-threatening injuries from which he succumbed this morning while undergoing treatment at KU Hospital ICU.\u00a0 Bodaboda untamed madness.”<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The accident along the Northern By-Pass comes just weeks after a senior officer attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations(DCI) and based at its headquarters along Kiambu Road died along the same highway.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n

Mr Boniface Muganda was killed after being involved in a hit-and-run accident along the Northern bypass in Nairobi on Saturday night.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n

The incident occurred around 9pm when the police officer, who was riding his motorcycle, was hit by an unknown motorist.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

 <\/p>\n

Police officers attached to Marurui Police Station found the senior officer lying on the road with multiple injuries.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

 <\/p>\n

Just like in Mr Chege\u2019s case, Mr Muganda was equally rushed to KUTRH, but was pronounced dead on arrival.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n

At the scene of the accident, police recovered a National Identification card, a Huduma Namba card, a Police Service card and a Ceska Pistol.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n

The officers attached to Kahawa West Police Station also took and stored his phone, DCI badge, ATM card, DCI driver\u2019s permit and Sh200 note.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Chege’s accident happened on the same day a nasty road accident on the Eastern bypass in Ruiru killed three people, including an 11-year-old child.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Sunday morning accident reportedly occurred near Green Valley Estate after a speeding Toyota Prado hit a tuk-tuk which then rammed into the matatu in front of it, leaving the helpless passengers sandwiched between the two vehicles.<\/span><\/p>\n
