One of the most significant advantages of riding is lane-splitting. I do split but very cautiously. It poses too many risks to the rider i.e.:
A pedestrian may be crossing the road due to the slow flow of the traffic, and you won’t see them since you are at the mid-road.
A car ahead could have given way to another vehicle turning or entering the road, and you cant see it from the middle.
Sometimes I am reluctant to lane split and watch bodaboda guys split as nobody cares.
So there is a particular weekend I am on Eastern Bypass going to Murang’a. A meat delivery rider with the container at the back speeds from nowhere. I go out of the yellow line as I pave the way for him to pass. In less than 10metetres ahead, he knocks off a Mercedes side-mirror off and speeds.
I felt sorry for the cager. I decided to follow the guy but akanipotelea pale Kamakis. This led me to ask myself, do we have a good relationship between the riders and motorists on the roads? Imagine this driver spending more than 15k for someone’s ignorance, next time akipatana na rider, what will keep him off from pushing the rider out of the road?
Many riders, especially Bodaboda have contributed much to the menace. How many times do they scratch someone’s car and speed off? How often have they hit cars from behind after speedily tailgating and speed off after the act?
These are some of the things that make riding a menace. Some of the drivers who are rogue to riders have got a bad firsthand experience with them.
If we can’t address this, then enmity will continue to grow.
