Rachel has been championing for healthy living through physical exercise such as cycling and launched Mama Cycling initiative in September to promote the practice.

Through her Facebook page the country’s First Lady said cycling was part of the solution to the country’s challenges of air pollution caused mostly by motorists.

She also noted the 146km journey was part of her celebration for the progress her cycling initiative has made since it was launched.

“Now more than ever is the time to begin thinking about a healthier environment, a healthier population and a sustainable economy. A safe non-motorised transport system for Watu Wa Baiskeli (cyclists) is part of the solution.Glad to have cycled 146km to mark 100 days since MaMa CyCling was established,” she posted.

Together with other cyclists, Rachel commenced the race from Nairobi’s Central Business District and went past Machakos county towards Makueni.

This is not the first time the deputy president’s spouse is joining cyclists for the ride.

October 25, Rachel pedalled for 37km in a winding race that commenced at Garden Square.

They spun through GPO to Waiyaki Way and cycled up to ABC Place in Westlands where they took a right turn and rode along Red Hill Road. They joined Limuru road and connected with Northern Bypass.

The team then branched to Kiambu Road before heading onto Thika Road around Garden City. They returned to the starting point using Muranga’ road through University Way.
