There was drama on Sunday after youth barricaded the Kenol-Murang’a road ahead of Deputy President William Ruto’s church event in the region.

One person was killed with several others sustaining serious injuries.

Property of unknown value is also said to have been destroyed.

Several vehicles could be seen turning back-to probably find alternative routes- in the clips shared on Sunday morning.

Videos shot at the scene showed burning tires smouldering on the road, making it impassable for motorists.

Other videos showed two groups of youth pelting each other with stones.

The latest precedes DP Ruto’s visit to the AIPCA Kenol Church where he was expected to attend a fundraiser.

He will be hosted by the Kandara member of parliament Alice Wahome.

Kenol residents said they spotted 5 buses ferrying youth to the church event on Sunday morning.

The residents said that the youths believed to have come from Nairobi and Thika started lighting tires after they were dropped off.

“They were in five buses, and we have never seen them before, they came in and started lighting tires on the road,” a witness narrated.

A woman identified as Mercy Wangui who was cornered by the residents and pummelled to a pulp said they had been paid Ksh. 1,000 to disrupt DP Ruto’s meeting.

She said she was among several others who had come from Thika and Kiandutu on orders to disrupt DP Ruto’s event.
