Could it be possible that Kenyan trucks take in a lot of abuse, just as much abuse as their drivers. Could it be possible that Kenyan trucks take in a lot of abuse, just as much abuse as their drivers? Being a trucker is not one of the rosiest jobs especially if you have to spend hours on end in a slow moving vehicle sometimes across international borders. The driver as well as his trucks take a lot of beating starting with the elements, wear & tear, fatigue, authorities, robbers..name it.

A lorry lost control and rammed a bridge at Daraja Mbili market in Kisii town on Thursday morning, October 29.

Kisii County Communications Director Jeff Akunga, confirmed the incident, stating that the lorry ferrying cereals steered off the road and ploughing through the traders in the market and ramming nearby motorbikes.

Chairman for Daraja Mbili Market, Denis Nyamwara, stated that only five people sustained injuries and were taken to the Kisii Teaching and Referral hospital. He stated that one woman was critically injured in the ordeal.

“Residents alerted the traders upon seeing the vehicle lose control. I highly urge all drivers to take precaution when driving along these busy roads,” he said.

He also commended the prompt response by the County police officers who rushed to the scene of the accident to calm matters.

Traders who illegally engage in business along the busy roads instead of the designated markets were put on notice.

According to the Kenya Police website, Daraja Mbili-Bondo junction was listed as a blackspot and considered risky for motorists due to the number of accidents that have occurred.
