No More Oops! I sent cash to wrong Mpesa

Hakikisha is a new feature by Safaricom enabling subscribers to make sure the name of the intended receiver before money is sent through M-Pesa.

This ensures that subscribers will no longer lose money by sending to the wrong number.

There’s an average of over 12,000 calls to Safaricom by subscribers seeking MPESA transactions to be reversed

“We end up resolving a majority of these queries successfully, however we realize that this is a big cause of inconvenience to our subscribers,” said director of financial services, Betty Mwangi.

Hakikisha which is a pop-up feature will also apply to ‘Lipa Na M-Pesa’ (PayBill option).

M-Pesa agents are already benefiting from Hakikisha by confirming the identity of subscribers before depositing money.

The new function has been under testing stage for about a month. it will be implemented in phases to all M-Pesa subscribers by end of October.
